Call for Nominations – The 2012 SCJ National Awards

Click here to read brief descriptions of the 2012 SCJ National Awards. All members and active chapters are eligible to compete. The awards must be mailed (with all supporting materials) or emailed (with all supporting materials in a .pdf or linked file) by January 30, 2012. Award decisions are made by the Past Presidents, Dr. Bill Ruehlmann and Dr. Sheridan Barker. If you would like a printed copy of the applications please phone or email the national office (mearnheardt@ysu.edu or 330-941-1517). Award decisions are made in early February 2012 and will be announced at the 2012 Biennial National Convention at Mercer University in Macon, GA.

One Medal of Merit may be awarded each year to a chapter member (current or alumni) making an outstanding contribution to the advancement of college journalism. The Certificate of Merit may be awarded to a member (current or alumni) who has made significant contributions to campus media. SCJ Member at FSU Named Rhodes Scholar Finalist

There are many talented, high-achieving students at Florida State University. And then there is Karlanna Lewis.

At 19, the Tallahassee native had already earned her bachelor's degree, graduating this past spring with a double major in creative writing and Russian—and a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Now, having just turned 20, she can add "Rhodes Scholarship Finalist" to her awe-inspiring résumé.

2012 National Convention

The Biennial National Convention is set for March 8-10 at Mercer University in Macon, GA. This conference is unique in that the students meet to set the course for the next two years of SCJ at the Biennial. In the time leading up to the convention, SCJ executive director Mary Beth Earnheardt will be looking for SCJ chapter advisers who are interested in serving on the National Council. Please call or email her if you are interested in serving.
