Chapter Charter - $30.00
Charter Reactivation - $15.00

This is a one time fee. The chapter receives its charter and is entitled to send two official delegates to the biennial National Convention. Remember, National will then pay convention fees for one official delegate and, in addition, National pays a travel stipend for each chapter delegation. Of course, National encourages each chapter to send chapter members in addition to the two delegates.

Medal of Merit - $12.00

The Medal of Merit may be awarded to a chapter member making an outstanding contribution to the advancement of college journalism. The Medal of Merit is a medallion, the cost, which is $12, is paid by the chapter making the award. The chapter can also have the medallion engraved. Each chapter can request one Medal of Merit a year.

Basic conditions for making the awards are:

1. That the recommendation for the awards be made to the national Executive Director by the local chapter faculty adviser, the dean of the institution, or director of student publications or student activities. Chapters should make nominations to the appropriate advisor, dean, or director with supporting evidence of the work done.
2. That the required evidence and recommendations be received by the national Executive Director, along with the fee for medals, before the beginning of the next school year.

The Certificates of Merit may be awarded to a member who has made significant contributions to their campus media. The Certificate of Merit is a printed citation which the SCJ makes available to chapters at no cost. The Certificates of Merit should be made for real distinction and are not mandatory for each active chapter each year. They should be presented in recognition of superior work. There is a maximum of two per year
